The Jaguars are on track for a fourth straight victory in the AFC South title game next weekend.
Jacksonville took the lead on the first offensive possession and didn’t look back Sunday against the Texans. A 31-3 win puts him 8-8 this season, and a win or draw with the Titans next weekend will give him his first divisional title since the 2017 season.
It would also make the playoffs for the first time since that season, and even playing for that opportunity would make Doug Pederson’s first year as head coach a huge success. All in all, this season has been much better. He rebounded from a rough rookie year that sidelined Urban Meyer and looked like the future star believed to be coming out of Clemson.
Lawrence went 17-of-21 for 152 yards on Sunday, making an interception before CJ Bearthard gave him a rest in the second half. Running back Travis Etienne ran nine for 108 yards, including a 62-yard touchdown, and caught three passes for 32 yards.
The Jags’ other offensive touchdowns came on runs by JaMycal Hasty and Snoop Conner. Cornerback Tyson Campbell returned a fumble by Texans quarterback Davis Mills for the other touchdown. Defensive end Josh Allen forced that fumble on his sixth sack of the season.
Pederson and Jaggs are looking for plays like that from the defense next weekend and some more from Lawrence in the passing game. If they get them, playoff football will likely return to Jacksonville.
