The captain was one of the few players in the starting line-up not to play in the World Cup and said he used the break “in a good way”.
Here’s the full transcript of his post-match interview…
About halftime remarks…
I think I said, “Keep playing, keep believing, keep doing the same thing.” We had to make some adjustments, but I think we played quite well in the first half. With just a missed goal, they scored from nothing. But I think we played well and kept doing a lot of the same things. Then in the second half we had space. I think he was tired at the end, but it was a really great, great performance.
To keep up the momentum from November…
I think that’s the job we did. We had a few players in the World Cup, but the players here have worked hard. We had a really great camp in Dubai, played some good matches and worked really hard. I think everyone is hungry to come back and prove that we are good enough to be here.Hard work and huge commitment to the club.
with my own playing…
i felt good today. I think the whole team was good. I didn’t play in the World Cup, so I had more rest than other players. So I feel good that I was able to take advantage of that.
To Eddie’s goal…
It was a great goal. I think the overall build-up was good and his turn and finish in the box was good. I’m really, really happy that he came and gave a performance like this. So I am very happy for him.
On putting pressure on Manchester City…
Yes, but like we said many times, we are focused on ourselves. I don’t really care about other teams. We are just focused on ourselves. Stay humble. Find the next game and win that game. It’s all that matters.
