Factbox: Winter storms leave 1.8 million without power in U.S.

Dec 24 (Reuters) – About 1.8 million homes and businesses lost power on Saturday as winter storms hit much of the country in the eastern half of the United States and Texas, according to PowerOutage.us data.

U.S. utilities were working to restore power after the storm moved away from their service areas, though some utilities were still dealing with high winds.

The Southeast experienced the most outages, with 465,635 customers in North Carolina, followed by Tennessee, Maine, Alabama, and South Carolina.

Over 10,000 customers in nearly half of the 50 U.S. states experienced power outages due to storms.

Over Christmas weekend, storms are expected to bring blizzard conditions to the Great Lakes region, with heavy rains followed by flash freezes on the East Coast, gusts of 60 miles per hour (100 kph) and winds to the south. Severe cold weather is expected as far as the United States. -Mexico border.

The power company with the most outages was Duke Energy (DUK.N), with 454,497 customers without power.
