Kentucky — Southbound lanes are closed on Interstate 71 between Louisville, Kentucky and Cincinnati, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet reports.

The northbound lane has recently reopened, but traffic is very slow and the situation remains dangerous. At mile marker 63, a cicada is stuck blocking the road.
In the southbound lane at mile marker 67 before the KY 562 flyover, nine cicadas are off the roadway.

State police tell you to make sure your exhaust pipes are clean and break windows to get some fresh air if you’re stuck in traffic. If your family is stuck in traffic, you may want to reach out and remind them of this.

Gov. Andy Beshear said the Kentucky National Guard is assisting state police by distributing blankets to stranded drivers and transporting them to the nearest warming shelter.
