Funviralpark A woman was found dead in a moving car after a barrage of gunfire in a neighborhood in West Birmingham.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Shundra Dennis McRae Vines, 43, of Birmingham.
Shot Spotter alerted police to multiple bullets fired in the 2500 block of Ensley on 24th Street at 12:44 a.m. Thursday. Police from the West Precinct were patrolling nearby and arrived at the scene within minutes.
Officers found Vines in the driver’s seat of a car at the end of a driveway. The windows were shattered and the woman had a gunshot wound.
The Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service declared Bynes dead at the scene.
Shot Spotter registered 11 rounds.
Sergeant Monica Lowe says the investigation is in the early stages and detectives are trying to determine what led to the fatal shooting.
Bynes is believed to have lived near where she was found, Law said.

A 17-year-old girl ran to the scene and screamed to see if her mother had been killed.
The woman’s death is the city’s 141st murder this year, the highest ever recorded in 1991. Just 24 hours ago, 12-year-old Audriana “Minnie” Pearson announced that she had died in her Killed in a drive-by shooting while sleeping in a house in East Birmingham.
Of the 141 murders, 10 were justified and therefore not considered crimes.
Across Jefferson County, there were 189 homicides, including 141 in Birmingham.
