M&T Bank combating food insecurity with grant funding – Saratogian

Albany, NY — M&T Bank continues to fight food insecurity by awarding several grants to local organizations addressing the issue.

Each year, M&T Bank awards more than $500,000 in grants to dozens of nonprofits in the greater metropolitan area.Built on years of commitment to fighting hunger and empowering communities A $45,000 grant was recently awarded to local food pantries and food access programs in Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga and Schenectady counties.

“No one should worry about where their next meal will come from,” said Charles Pinckney, Regional President of M&T Bank. Few community needs are more important than ending hunger, and while food insecurity is a constant challenge, we are proud of the wonderful non-profits who are working hard to feed those in need in our communities. We are grateful for the opportunity to support a for-profit organization.”

Access to affordable and healthy food remains a growing concern. Across the metropolitan area, approximately 80,030 people, or about 11% of the population, are food insecure, according to recent data from Feeding America. These numbers increased during the pandemic. This is the issue M&T is targeting with its latest grant.

One of the grant recipients, the Albany Housing Authority, has partnered with M&T and Business For Good’s Jahkeen Hoke and his team to feed more than 300 families in need. Meals will be prepared by Kizzy Williams of Allie B’s Cozy Kitchen.
