Hamden, CT. (WFSB) - Just two hours into the new year, police are trying to determine why several people were shot in their cars in Hampden.
This occurred in the area from exit 60 to exit 59 heading south on Route 15, not far from Hampden High School.
It happened around 2:23 am on Sunday.
Both northbound and southbound lanes from Exit 60 to Exit 59 of Route 15 were closed for the purposes of this study.
When police arrived on the scene, they found the driver, Adrian Lopez, had a gunshot wound.
Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene.
The four men in the vehicle have been identified as: Adrian Lopez, Mark Dunbar, Cuaron Wilkes and Takuan Donald.
Wilkes was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital in critical condition, as was Donald, who was in a non-life-threatening condition.

Hamden resident Mike Dinuzzo said: Crime doesn't change overnight. ”
And Dinuzzo didn't expect that.
"It happened in my street this summer. Two cars were chasing each other, and one got out of the car and started shooting," Dinuzzo said. "Just stay home and stay safe."
The CSP Major Crime Squad has been requested to assist with the investigation.
Troopers have been taking pictures all morning, looking for evidence with trained K-9s.
Police urged those traveling through the area to seek alternative routes.
