There is more than one definition of the word "muscle car." For example, there are some standards that must be adhered to. This includes a powerful V8 engine that fits under the hood, the ability to burn out, heavy curb weight and, of course, being ridiculously fast, especially on his quarter-mile straight. Sure, some good 4-cylinder engines are making their way into muscle cars, but that attribute alone is enough to disqualify him from taking the muscle car title. Of course, I don't mean to blame Mustang EcoBoost... RELATED: 10 Incredibly Affordable Muscle Cars See they didn't mention anything about having to come from America. Well, that's mostly because other foreign markets have entered this automotive niche. We decided to set up a list of favorites 2022 muscle carTake a look back at last year's best pony cars and reminisce with us.

Since its dawn, the Camaro has earned that title as one of the most admired muscle cars ever built. The Camaro's hefty girth, albeit rather small, combined with his ridiculously powerful V8 and heavy chassis earned him the title of 'muscle car'.

The most exhilarating Chevrolet Camaro we've seen this year was the Camaro ZL1. On the one hand, track-focused suspension and aerodynamic upgrades have lost the muscle-car-like part, but a glorious supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine that puts out 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque was retained. Well, either that, or an insane COPO Camaro with a 10.4-liter V8 engine.

9/10 ford mustang

Like the Chevrolet Camaro, the Ford Mustang is highly regarded in the muscle car world. The Mustang was always rear-wheel drive, offered a manual gearbox, and had a naturally aspirated V8 engine under the hood. However, this rule excludes Shelby or EcoBoost variants.

The most impressive Mustang of the year is the Mustang Mach 1. Naturally aspirated, he is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine that delivers 470 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels. And his new 2024 Ford Mustang is proving to be just as good.

It has the first muscle car built outside the United States and the first four-door muscle car, the Lexus IS 500 F Sport. This Japanese sports sedan comes with a naturally aspirated V8 that pumps 472 hp and 395 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels.

It's a more precise tool than some of the aforementioned muscle cars, but it's still as raw and powerful as any muscle car. 0-60 mph he occurs in just over 4 seconds and in 12.8 seconds he dashes past the 1-mile mark in 4 minutes. It's also worth mentioning that the Lexus IS 500 is his one of the few fast sports sedans that are cheap to own and maintain.

Once upon a time, the Dodge Charger was Dodge's flagship muscle car coupe. But today, for those who want a Challenger but want a more practical alternative, it's their four-door pride and joy.

Our award for Favorite Charger of 2022 is none other than the SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody. Not only does it look menacing, it's powered by a 6.2-liter V8 supercharger that puts out 797 hp and 707 lb-ft of torque. RELATED: You Haven't Seen Anything Until You See Hellucination Dodge Charger

6/10 BMW M8 Competition

Even Germany challenged the muscle car segment with the BMW M8 competition. This Beamer is far more luxurious and sophisticated than some of the entries, but it still stands alone on paper and exceeds all expectations in the real world.

The luxurious exterior of the BMW M8 Competition is complemented by a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 producing 617 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. The only reason the BMW M8 isn't high on our list is because of the not-so-muscle-car-friendly all-wheel-drive system and turbocharger pairing. At least this allows the M8 to do 0-60 mph in his 2.5 seconds and complete the 1/4 mile stretch in 10.7 seconds.

5/10 Jaguar F-Type R

Add the controversial Jaguar F-Type R to the list. Please listen to me. There are several reasons why the new F-Type R is both a luxury Grand Tourer and a muscle car.

For example, consider an engine hidden under an elongated bonnet. A supercharged 5.0-liter V8 producing 575 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. And let's not forget, the F-Type R weighs his 4,105 pounds, which is nearly 300 pounds heavier than the Mustang that preceded it.

For the past decade or so, the Dodge Challenger has been the ultimate muscle car money can buy. Not much has changed, but the competition has certainly changed.

The best charger we saw throughout 2022 was the SRT Hellcat Red Eye Widebody model with the jailbreak package. Not only did this give buyers more color options to choose from, but it boosted his supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine to 807 horsepower.

3/10 Ford Mustang Shelby GT 500

If you're wondering why the regular Ford Mustang ranks so low on our list, this is why. Thanks to the existence of the Shelby GT500.

Both the regular Mustang and Shelby share overall ergonomics, but only the GT 500 is more track-focused. Aside from the revitalized exterior, the Shelby GT 500 packs a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 that delivers 760 hp and 625 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels.

2/10 chevrolet corvette

Corvettes were definitely muscle cars back then. Today, however, the C8 Corvette blurs the lines between super-fast muscle car and hypercar, especially considering his Z06. Interesting fact, even Chevrolet took inspiration from the Germans and mislabeled his V8 from the output of the Z06.

The base model Corvette has a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 that puts out 790 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. The Corvette Z06, on the other hand, features a completely redesigned flat-plane crankshaft 5.5-liter V8. RELATED: 1,400-HP Corvette Z06 C7 and Tesla Model S Plaid Head to Head in Epic Drag Race
