Polestar has made headlines in the highly competitive electric vehicle market for its luxury models, but the company ranks at the bottom of the recent list of luxury electric vehicles. The Polestar 2 ranked last on US News' list, but that doesn't mean electric sedans are bad cars.
In fact, US News still gives the Polestar 2 mostly positive reviews.

Worst luxury electric car still gets positive reviews
US News ranked nine luxury electric cars based on the cars' review scores. The highest-rated EV on the list is the Mercedes-Benz EQS, scoring 9.2 out of 10. This was followed closely by Lucid Air, who missed the top spot with his 9.1 points. At the bottom of the list were his two cars tied, one of which was his Polestar 2 for 2023.
But while calling the Polestar 2 the worst luxury electric car might be an exaggeration, US News still gave the sedan high marks. The Polestar 2 scored his 8.3 out of 10, just one point short of the top-ranked Mercedes-Benz EQS.
In addition to this high review score, the Polestar 2 also stands out as the second most affordable luxury electric vehicle on the US news list. With a base suggested retail price of $48,400, it's just slightly ahead of the Tesla Model 3 as the most affordable EV on our list. This Tesla has a starting price of $46,990.
As mentioned above, the Polestar 2 has received very positive reviews overall, and there's a lot to be said for this sedan. US News says that what really sets the Polestar 2 apart is its interior. It feels luxurious and is especially spacious. Passengers will be comfortable and there will be plenty of luggage space for long trips.
Another highlight of the Polestar 2 is its acceleration. With the dual motor option, the Polestar 2 can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 4.5 seconds.
However, US News shows that the Polestar 2 has its downsides. Perhaps the Polestar 2's most significant drawback is its range. The base single-motor Polestar 2 has a range of 270 miles.
This isn't necessarily a bad number, it's pretty average compared to some other EVs, but it could disappoint buyers interested in luxury EVs. The Polestar 2 is often compared to the Tesla Model 3, which has longer range than the Polestar.
The Polestar 2 isn't the only EV to earn an 8.3 review score, but it joins the Porsche Taycan for worst luxury electric car spot. However, like the Polestar 2, just because it's at the bottom of US news lists doesn't mean the Porsche Taycan is a bad car.
US News says Porsche Taycan models will start with 321 horsepower, with high-end models having up to 616 horsepower. This power delivers acceleration worthy of the Porsche name, and electric Porsches are also appreciated for their impressive handling. In addition, the Taycan retains many of the characteristic styling elements found in Porsche vehicles.
However, the Porsche Taycan is significantly more expensive than the Polestar 2, starting at $82,700. The Porsche Taycan and the Polestar 2 got the same review score, but they're very different EVs, and there's no clear answer as to which is the better luxury electric car.
