Sports car goes airborne during crash that killed 1, hurt 1 in Volusia County, troopers say

Glencoe, Florida – A 33-year-old New Smyrna Beach man died in a one-vehicle crash in Glencoe on Friday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Police said the crash occurred at 10:34 pm on the Pioneer Trail near Bridget Street.

According to the crash report, the man was driving a 2022 Porsche 911 heading east on the Pioneer Trail, approaching Bridget Street, when his car veered off the road on the right. The sports car pulled into the grass shoulder and hit a mailbox, then a fire hydrant, causing the car to become airborne and crash into a wooden fence. It hit a tree on the shoulder of the grass and eventually stopped.

The man was confirmed dead at the scene. According to reports, his passenger - a 28-year-old Port Orange man - suffered minor injuries. Police said both men were wearing seat belts.

According to FHP, this fatal crash is still under investigation at the time of writing.
