Rockton crash involving 8 cars during Chicago severe weather injures 3, officials say

Rockton, IL (WLS) -- Eight vehicles collided near Rockford, injuring three people, emergency responders said as winter weather hit the Chicago area.

Firefighters in Rockton, Illinois, responded to the crash at Block 8800 on North Main Road around 4 p.m. Friday, working in conditions near a "dangerous" subzero whiteout, the Rockton Fire District said. said in a Facebook post.

Rockton Fire Department said eight vehicles were involved and no one was seriously injured. Three people were taken to a local hospital.

Officials said the road was closed for some time.

The crash is under investigation.

One person was killed and several injured when 50 vehicles collided on a highway in Ohio on Friday. A tanker also capsized on Friday in northwestern Indiana, closing it for hours as freezing temperatures made the roads slippery.

Rockton is about 100 miles northwest of Chicago along the Wisconsin border.
