Detroit – A man was arrested Wednesday after driving over 130 mph on Detroit's east highway and surrounding areas, causing multiple car accidents.

Just before 10:00 pm on December 28, Michigan State Police said they were notified of a reckless driver driving in excess of 130 miles per hour east of Detroit. Police said the driver had driven through Hoover Road, Gratiot His Avenue, 8 Mile Road and a residential area, endangering other drivers on the east side by speeding.

video Images taken by MSP helicopters show drivers ignoring traffic laws, recklessly slipping through traffic and sometimes driving on the wrong side of the road. At one point in the video, a driver can be seen ignoring a red light to cross a busy intersection and move between cars coming from both sides of a vertical road.

Police say he drove through multiple red lights at high speed and caused several crashes in the area.

Police were not involved in chasing the reckless driver by car. This is especially dangerous when driving at high speeds. MSP's helicopter continued to pursue the reckless driver unwittingly from above.

Authorities said the underside of the vehicle eventually caught fire. Caught on helicopter footage, the driver is seen getting out of a burning vehicle, abandoning it, and getting into the passenger seat of another vehicle in the Baden Street and Yorkshire Road area. The original and new drivers were also identified as male and drove off.

In less than a minute, several Detroit police vehicles converged on the two individuals and corralled them.

individual was arrested. Their identities have not yet been made public. It is unclear what charges they may face at this time. It is also unclear whether the second driver was intentionally waiting for the reckless driver or whether the driver forced into his second vehicle.

Police said they recovered illegal firearms from individuals.
