Over 200 cars involved in big pileup on Chinese bridge shrouded in fog, one killed

More than 200 vehicles piled up on a bridge in the Chinese city of Zhengzhou on Wednesday, killing one person, rescue workers and CCTV state broadcaster reported.

Pictures and videos posted on social media showed cars and trucks piled up on the Zhengxin Yellow River Bridge. In a photo taken from CCTV footage, a car was jackknifed in the middle of a pile. There are so many people here, I don't think you can get off the bridge," one person can be heard saying in a video clip. State media said many of the injured were trapped in their vehicles, and the fire department dispatched 11 fire engines and 66 rescue workers.

Visibility was less than 500 meters in many areas on Wednesday morning, dropping to as low as 200 meters at times, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. Rescuers said more than 200 vehicles had crashed into each other, media reported. CCTV reported that vehicles traveling in both directions across the bridge, a major intersection of the Yellow River, were involved in numerous crashes.
