More than 5,000 Southwest Airlines flights were canceled on Tuesday and Wednesday. That's because airlines were caught up in a nationwide holiday travel disruption that left thousands stranded. However, due to Southwest Airlines cancellations and significant delays, people who had to pay for unexpected expenses such as meals, hotels and car rentals can now request reimbursement for additional travel expenses.
Vacationers affected by flight cancellations or significant flight delays between December 24, 2022 and January 2, 2023 should consider refunds, according to the airline's website. You can submit a receipt for your purchase to the Southwest email page. The airline did not specify a minimum length for "substantial" delays.The airline said refunds would also be considered on a case-by-case basis.
The airline says on its website that it "will honor reasonable requests for reimbursement of meals, hotels and alternative transportation."
Refunds are also available for affected Southwest travelers. Those caught in the Southwest debacle can request a formal refund on Southwest's travel disruption page or call customer support at 1-800-435-9792. Refunds can only be made for unused tickets.
