Philadelphia (CBS) -- It was Christmas, but the Philadelphia International Airport had a busy day as flights full of families were still landing at the airport.
Gary Chimes and his son flew from Seattle to Philadelphia. I received my luggage at the baggage claim.
"Seattle was freezing and flights were being canceled all over the place. I wasn't sure if it was going to work, but it worked," Chimes said. "We actually left on time and it went well."
Top-hatted Kevin Jones stands out from the crowd as his family was supposed to fly in from Houston yesterday, but the flight was canceled and he changed flights again today when he got to the airport. I had to
“We had to catch another flight, and we actually arrived about six hours ahead of schedule,” says Jones. "I'm a day late, but I'm six hours early."
However, not everyone was lucky with the flight.
Peter Gearhart's family was supposed to fly to Breckenridge, Colorado on Friday to celebrate his son's Bar Mitzvah, but the flight was canceled and they didn't have many options.
They drove through a winter storm earlier this week to Breckenridge for nearly 33 hours.
"It was a little harrowing," said Gearhart. "There was a lot of high winds, 30, 40 mph winds, precipitation, snow and a little sleet. There were multiple road closures with trucks and delivery vans being blown away."
Gearhart and his sons took turns driving and arrived just in time to reach the slopes ahead of their son's bar mitzvah.
“Our grandfather's car wasn't as sturdy as the SUV we drive now, but somehow it survived the bad weather,” says Gearhart. "We kept the belief that our skill and focus would get us there."
