Driver injured after car struck by train in Woodstock

Woodstock, IL (CBS) – A driver was hospitalized after a car crashed into a Metra train in unincorporated Woodstock early Saturday morning. The Woodstock Fire and Rescue District received a call at approximately 2:05 am that a vehicle had been struck by a train at a railroad crossing on Lily Pond Road. Within minutes of arriving, firefighters found a badly damaged vehicle on the road just south of the tracks.

According to initial reports, the male driver was outside the vehicle when the collision with the train occurred. He was seriously injured after hitting his car and debris after the crash, fire officials said. The driver was then flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. None of the outbound Metra train passengers required medical attention.

Lily Pond Road was closed in both directions for over three hours.The train was halted during the incident, but started moving again shortly after 5 a.m. Metro police are investigating.
