Dearborn officials investigating fatal 2 car collision caused by driver fleeing police

Dearborn, Michigan – Police are investigating a fatal car accident at a traffic intersection west of Dearborn.

Two cars collided at the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Gully Street at 8:45 a.m. Monday, police said.

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office said officers attempted to stop a Ford Econoline van driving east on Michigan Avenue. The van drove through a red light at an intersection and crashed into her Chevrolet Trucks, driven by a 61-year-old woman in Lincoln Park. A Lincoln Park woman was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The Ford van driver fled on foot and was eventually arrested by Dearborn police.

Authorities said there were no passengers in either vehicle.

Police are asking any witnesses to the situation to contact the Dearborn Police Department.
