Madison, Wisconsin (WMTV) - One family's holiday weekend in Dane County turned into a blast after marveling at a brand new car on Friday. Other families enjoyed shopping.
At Hildale Shopping Center, the Dane County Boys & Girls Club and the Dane County Black Men's Coalition teamed up to give away special gifts through a Holiday Pay Forward campaign.
BGCDC President and CEO Michael Johnson said the company is looking forward to the holiday season.
“I had great results with the Holiday Extravaganza, and I felt like I had more to do,” said Johnson. "This Holiday Pay Forward campaign will reach even more families this holiday season."
Families were nominated through the campaign and selected for car giveaways and shopping. Over 40 families had the chance to shop on Target Friday.
BMCDC Founder and CEO Corey Marionneaux said: “Families are really struggling with car repairs and maintenance, unemployment, mental health, etc.”
Both leaders thanked donors and community volunteers for their support.
Rashida Marshall, mum of three and winner shopper, said she had to navigate difficult circumstances this year.
"The boys had just lost their father two weeks ago and we were a little worried about how we were going to make this happen for them," Marshall said.
She says resources to help families during difficult times make all the difference, especially during the holidays.
"Even if you have a few bucks to support an organization like this, I just want you to make sure that you take every opportunity you have to give back to people," Marshall said.
