At 8:46 pm on December 28, in the parking lot of 5516 Leesburg Pike, someone opened fire on a car while waiting for a car. Two people were slightly injured, according to Fairfax County Police.
The event was organized by a group called Capital Mischief, who host weekly Taco Tuesday car meetups.
Police believe the incident is related to two incidents in the past six months in which a firearm was fired in a parking lot near the 5500 block of Leesburg Pike on Baileys Crossroads.
Capital Mischief said on Instagram that the shot was from a high-powered air rifle in an apartment across the street. "The individual was not present at the convention, so no violence occurred at the car convention, but it was across the street and on some floors."
According to the FCPD, the shots from a BB gun or pellet gun were aimed at officers. No police officers were attacked. They haven't confirmed where the shot came from.
The incident is similar to what happened at a car meeting held at the same location on the night of July 16th. A member of his community reported that his car was hit by an unknown projectile. The vehicle suffered damage consistent with what detectives believed was the shooting. Someone else at the car meeting suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
The second incident occurred at 11:15 am on September 23rd at Block 3500 of S. Jefferson Street, just west of Block 5500 of Leesburg Pike. Two community members said their vehicle had been hit.No one was injured in the incident.
