1 dead, 1 critically injured after crashing car into Redemption Church – Action News Jax

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — One person was killed and another seriously injured Tuesday morning after a car crashed in front of the Redemption Church, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Department reported.

Detectives said the Toyota sedan was driving west on San Jose Boulevard around 12:07 a.m. The road ends at the intersection with Lane Avenue South. For unknown reasons, the driver failed to turn onto Lane Avenue South and headed straight into the church parking lot before crashing into a concrete pillar supporting a metal overhang.

The collision overturned the car and ejected the female passenger. She was pronounced dead at the scene and her driver was taken to hospital in critical condition. The JSO said neither were wearing seatbelts.

Detectives are looking at speed and obstacles as possible causes of the crash. No roads were closed as a result of the investigation.

This marks the 169th road fatality in Duval County this year.
