EXCLUSIVE: ‘Salman Khan and I were the only two people to compete for the role of Prem in Maine Pyaar Kiya’ – Deepak Tijori: Bollywood News

Deepak Tijori had a memorable debut with Aashiqui (1990). However, few people know that he even auditioned for the lead role in Maine Pyar Kiya (1989). The actor was one of two choices for the character of Prem, which was eventually tried out by superstar Salman Khan. Deepak Tijori spoke in detail about this not-so-known anecdote during a recent exclusive interaction with bollywood hungama.

Deepak Tijori revealed: “Yes. Salman Khan and I both auditioned for it. I was in competition. Sooraj Barjatya later told me that after watching the rushes, the Barjatya family decided to go from the front with Salman Khan. Salman and I were the only two people who competed for the role of Prem, neck and neck. They even told me that if they chose me, they would like to change my screen name and discussed how they would like to cast me.

Deepak Tijori, currently, is busy with the post-production of his film, TippsyThe comedy thriller, which wrapped filming in April 2022, stars Natasha Suri, Kainaat Arora, Nazia Hussain, Alankrita Sahai and Sonia Birje.

Deepak said: “Tippsy was a great and satisfying trip. I was a bit threatened by every woman I spoke to. They told me it was suicidal to have thrown 5 heroines together (laughs)! I was told there would be a lot of cat fighting, bitching, etc. However, the filming went so well. The girls gelled and there was great chemistry between them. They were also thrilled because they knew they were part of an exciting five girl movie. the editing process now. I look forward to publishing it in September.

Deepak Tijori added: “Tippsy looks exactly like what I wanted. For two years, the film sat on hold. We were supposed to fly to London, but that didn’t happen.

What also occupies Deepak Tijori is his 2003 film OopsDeepak explained, “My first director Oops also has an English version which was never released. I restored it. I saw the movie a week ago to check the impression. I realized that it was a film ahead of its time. Glad to see it’s so relevant even today. I’ll be rolling that version out for today’s audience soon. The movie was made in 2002 and released in 2003.”


The Hindi version of the film is not available anywhere online. Asked about this, Deepak Tijori replied: “I had sold the Hindi version of Oops at a time when I was having financial difficulties. Whoever has the rights can answer this question. However, as I said, those who want to see the film can watch the English version of Oops. It’s as good as the Hindi version. In fact, it will be better. Today’s audience is ready to see Indians speaking in English. I guess Nagesh Kukunoor and I were the first to do an English version of an Indian movie (smiles)!”

Deepak Tijori started his career with AashiquiAt a time when we talk about doing Aashiqui 3who does he think should be chosen for the lead roles? Deepak Tijori said: “I can’t answer that. Bhatt saab (Mahesh Bhatt) has a very different way of thinking. He’s very spontaneous. If he sees a guy somewhere, woh usko bol denge, ‘Chal, you aa jaa’ (laughs)! He doesn’t really need a big name.”

Now that he has a director, does he want to direct Aashiqui 3He replied, “I’ve always wanted to direct a film for Vishesh Films ever since Bhattsaab mentored me. So I really want to do a film that he would have written and I would have directed. I want that to happen. produce one day. I’m like, “It’s definitely going to happen. I am very positive! And it would be a pleasure if my friend Pooja Bhatt was also part of the project. That would be the icing on the cake.”

Speaking of acting projects, Deepak Tijori is thrilled to star in Jai Mehta’s web series, “I couldn’t start as I was busy directing. Tippsy. Luckily, they didn’t shoot my part and as a result, I was part of the show again. Now they plan to shoot it soon. The series is called pirate.”
