CHAPEL HILL—The University of North Carolina is the eighth seed in the 2022 NCA Eastern Regional Tournament and will face No. 9 seed Marquette (19-12) on Thursday in Fort Worth, Texas.

The winner will face No. 1 seeded Baylor or No. 16 Norfolk State on Saturday in the second round.

Hubert Davis Quote
University of North Carolina Head Coach
March 13, 2022

What were your emotions before your first selection Sunday as head coach?
“It was really emotional. It’s been a great year, and it’s been a long year. Some people think Carolina is in the NCAA Tournament, that’s for sure, but it’s not. I’m so proud of what these players did, they “earned the opportunity to play in the NCAA Tournament. Their commitment to each other and our program earned them this chance to compete in the NCAA Tournament.”

What do you like about playing in the NCAA Tournament?
“I like the urgency and gravity of a do or die situation. I like the atmosphere of having a chance to win a national championship. I like the competition of playing against the best teams in the country. I love the opportunity to play against different teams that you’ve never seen before All of those things You go through ups and downs throughout the year and having the opportunity to keep playing is really special .”

What do you like about your team?
“I love the fight of this group, our perseverance, our unity, our tenacity, and I love the urgency that we have to be the best we can be right now. This is the healthiest and most together that our team has been out all season. Glad to see we’re playing this week. Even though we played in the NCAA tournament last year, everything was just different with Covid. Except for Armando (Bacot) and Leaky (Black), everyone really got to experience Carolina Basketball for the first time this Now everyone other than Leaky, who was a freshman when we played in the Sweet 16, is going to be able to experience a real NCAA tournament. I’m really excited about this opportunity for them.
